WARNING: These are photos of surgery cases that we thought were of particular interest.  However, a few of them may be too graphic for some people.

Surgery

Most pets will have at least one surgical procedure in their lives…a neuter or spay.  Unless you are planning to intentionally breed your dog or cat, they should be neutered or spayed to prevent an unwanted pregnancy and help your pet live a healthier and longer life. Clark County and Las Vegas regulations both require this at four months of age.  Neutering at a young age prevents testicular cancer and will contribute to improved behavior (aggression, spraying in the house, roaming to search for a mate, etc).  Spaying helps prevent mammary tumors and uterine infections as well as preventing your female from going into heat.  It is best if they are spayed before their first heat.

Our veterinarians are trained to perform most of the routine surgical procedures that your pet may need. Besides neutering and spaying, some of the common procedures that we perform are:

 •  Tumor removal
 •  Cherry eye restoration
 •  Cystotomy (bladder stones)
 •  Splenectomy (spleen removal)
 •  Ear hemotoma repair
 •  Laceration repair
 •  Entropian eye surgery
 •  Abscess repair
 •  Gastric dilation (bloat)
 •  Foreign body removal
 •  Fracture repair

We also have a large group of referral veterinarians for specialty needs.

Cherry Eye Restoration

Brick during his initial exam

Picture
Dogs have a third eyelid that helps protect their eyes.  Sometimes the gland of that eyelid slips out of place and bulges.  This is called a cherry eye.  It needs to be surgically put back in place. Removal is not a good option, unless absolutely necessary because the gland produces 30-60 percent of tear production.

Immediately after surgery

Brick is still pretty groggy and his eye looks red hours after the surgery from the irritation, but soon it should look fabulous.

One week later

One week later and Brick looks terrific. He is just as sweet and cheerful as he looks!
